Sanctity Of Marriage

What do we mean by the word “sanctity” it means, “the quality of being sacred or holy. The sacredness of marriage should be revered as a crucial expression of every spouse’s life. Marriage isn’t as simple as the uniting of two individuals through paper and law. It is a most holy covenant between each husband and wife and a covenant between that couple and the Lord. When done in the right spirit, every couple can have a God fearing and God favored married life.

The meaning of “sanctity of marriage” and how it is regarded by people is derived from the written Word of God. We often seem to forget that it was God Himself that created the union of man and woman. Marriage isn’t man-made like many other binding agreements and contracts of modern day. Marriage is as enduring as the creation of mankind, and God is the one who instituted it. That is why the order said: “Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). Then, God blessed the first marriage between Adam and Eve.

What is the sanctity of marriage according to the Bible? Why is marriage considered holy? God performed the first marriage in the Old Testament, and Jesus confirmed the holiness of marriage in the New Testament with the following words: “Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What, therefore, God hath joined together, let not man put apart” (Matthew 19:5).

When the two people who have agreed to live together as one fully understand what sanctity of marriage is and give themselves to living by God's precepts, they will not only enjoy their marriage Union, hut will ward off the enemy from their marriage.

One of the things that gives the enemy an in road into most marriages is ungodly life style which most times is expressed through immorality, evil speaking, gossip, lying to one another, etc.

But when the couple sees the need of following God's precepts as contained in the Bible, and lives by them, they will begin to enjoy marriage to its fullest. And that's the will of God for everyone of us.

Have a strong desire to make holiness your watch word. Talk to your spouse about it, commit it to God about your desire to begin living holy, ask the Holy Spirit, to shed light on some weak areas of your lives, and when the Spirit exposes one or two areas you are falling short, go to God in prayer, ask Him to forgive and give you that grace to overcome them.

When sanctity is upheld, given its right place in your marriage, the blessings of God will be obvious.
